As I roll into the second half of the Fall semester at the School Of Visual Arts I realize the need to mix it up. The classroom setting can become a bit redundant and students can get jaded very quickly. Therefore I try to mix it up as much as possible. Last week perspective was on the teaching to do list. In the morning session I gave examples and demonstrations. In the afternoon I took the class to Madison Square Park in Manhattan New York. We mainly focused on perspective, however we took a detour and drew in the dog park which is always an experience.

Mixing It Up

Try Drawing from a Different Perspective
You should try to mix it up as well. It’s very easy to become jaded when working in the same space day in and day out. Variety is key, draw different things, different textures. Get out before it really gets cold and draw items you normally never would. It awakens your senses and puts you in a good mood. I have to admit I was a bit jealous watching all of the students draw the tree houses. So if you are finding yourself in a routine rut, get out of your studio. Go on a sketch walk, mix it up and get your creative juices flowing again.
