Natalie’s Sketchbook Drawings

I’m filming a sketchbook a week utilizing my iphone. This week I am showcasing Natalie’s unique style of drawing. Natalie is in my Foundation Drawing Class at the School of Visual Arts. She has a great eye for detail. It really shows through in her drawings, have fun checking them out. All of my students have to finish two sketchbooks in a 15 week semester, you should try it too. Your drawings will thank you for it.

I don’t remember being that advanced back then..But I have to find my sketchbooks from SVA but I am to old already to find them… I have my sketchbooks now and they are interesting but these kids are great.. Boy watch out for the future….!!!!

Hey Natalie I’m in middle school and I would love to draw as good as you. You inspired me to start my own sketchbook. Thanks you so so much.

P.S. Can you tell me where you buy your sketchbooks? They look like they are a really great quality. Thanks again!

    Hey Natalie,

    You’re sketchbook is just amazing!
How do you do it? Thanks Matt, for letting us see this wonderful artist. I prefer this style, other than the previous sketchbook.
Keep on drawing and keep on wowing us!

Natalie: Your sketchbooks are amazing. I am curious about your process. How do you begin? Do you have an idea in mind and then sketch in pencil before adding colour? Are you using ink, marker,…? How long do you spend drawing? etc…I get blocked when I see the blank page and then feel limited by materials.
    Once again, thanks for sharing.

Matt, you have such talented students.

Wow! Fantastic sketchbook Natalie. You can really see the improvement over just a few weeks. It’s fantastic to see other sketchbooks as it provides inspiration for your own sketchbook. My sketchbooks are completely different for class, as I’m really focussing on exploratory media but I can see a big difference after just 7 weeks. Also, I can see a big difference in my life drawing sketchbooks. Thank you for showing this Matt, and thanks to Natalie for allowing us to see your work!

    Hey Matt!

    What is that???? Congratulations Natalie!

Matt, are all your students like that? First Dana, now Natalie … Who will be next? I could spent days looking at her sketchbook and still my jaw would drop at every page turn.

Thanks so much Matt, thanks so much Natalie.

Matt, will you one day organize a “Student’s sketchbook expo”? I’d pay for the entry tickets now. :)

    Kind regards,
    Helio

  13. Sandi Says:

Thank you Natalie for allowing Matt to show us your sketchbook its helps so much to see other students work. When you don’t go to class and your not surrounded by students you don’t get to see their work. I loved your sketchbook, the love for what you are doing is so apparent. You are an awsome artist I loved the podcast thanks so much :)

  14. Sonny Says:

Great stuff Natalie! My favorite is the red headed girl peeking around the large nose. Just wonderful energy.

  15. Stephen Says:

    Thanks, Matt and Natalie!

  16. Luca Says:

Great work. I tend to have the same “problem” (?) as you Matt, cause I tend to keep my sketchbook pretty much in order and clean.
By the way, would you check my art out cause I’m also a Foundation Diploma student. I’d be glad to hear from you Matt.

    Thanks and regards from Malta.

  17. Susan McGinnis Hardie Says:

I loved your sketchbook, Natalie! It reminds me of the boxes of sketchbooks that I have from my Art Center College of Design years. I plan to show my own figure drawing students your work next week. I teach at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan and at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, online division. I was wondering what degree are you pursuing at School of Visual Arts? Also, to Matt, how do you assignment the sketchbook? Do you give weekly assignments? ow do you inspire them to fill the sketchbook? Also, how long are your class sessions (How many hours do you meet in a week?)

    Thanks!

To show off the students sketchbooks is a great feature. In this one there is a sense of brilliance. Motivating, inspiring yes. But also a kick in the stomach to the “newbie” and a marching order to get back into the sketchbook !

    Great post
