This video drawing tip of the week will teach you the imporatnce of having patience with yourself while working on your drawings. Every drawing does have an awkward stage. That is when you must stick with it. Also stay disciplined. Don’t pop the brightest highlight or darkest eyelash first. Set your form up with a bunch of middle tones first.

Have you ever thought about adding some videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the full article of yours and it was pretty good but since I’m more of a visual learner, I find videos attractive. Maybe something to test?

Nice work, Matt! I joined Drawing-Tutorials-Online and can already see an marked improvement. I’d love to see you do a color drawing of this as well as how you would do an under-painting (drawing) and then paint over it like you mentioned in one of your videos.

Thanks so much! I actually just drew the picture… sketched it roughly! I switched it up a little though so… YA I didn’t exactly copy it!
Whoever drew that is an AMAZING artist! I hope to see more of this style of drawing!

Matt, I’ve been watching your drawing tips for quite some time now. They really inspire me. I just wish I had you for a teacher in the real world!
December 30th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
fantastic work Matt,
Please, can you add the push for more realism and the digital colouring sections. It would be very valuable to my learning curve.
Thanks
December 29th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I’d really like to see a finished painterly rendering too. Color would be cool as well.
December 29th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Matthew,
I would LOVE to see the color versions. I absolutely enjoy both digital and traditional portrayals because I’ve recently certified to become an art teacher and I want to stay current with using technology in the classroom. Though I’m 53, an old dog definitely CAN learn new trick and I challenge others to give new things a try especially after mastering the traditional ways. Michelangelo would be proud!
Thanks so much for your generosity and patient guidance.

Hi Matt,
This is my first post and I’ve got to say that I love your instruction. I would like to see you do this drawing in color. I think it would be a great help to see how you think and choose a color palette.
I’ll keep my eye out for the new DVD.
Thanks.

I am interested in digital mediums, the programs are indeed easy to learn. I dont think it makes any difference whether its digital or not, the concept, in this case, is more important.
Of course the tutorials should be varied, but I don´t think they shouldnt be just on traditional media just because some people dont know hot to use the programs. I don´t mean to sound rude or anything like that.

Matt,
Thanks for these georgeous tutorial videos, i have to say, for me you are amazing, but i’ll stick with “Misha’il and Albert’s” opinion; it would be better if you use pencils, and, i would definitely love to see you doing a portrait in colour.
Again thanks for the tips…

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes I agree her nose is too small, I already fixed it:) But thanks for giving me a crit. Also I’m committed to traditional pencil drawing. I think it’s good for me to mix it up. The next tutorial will be traditional for sure.

Hi..
thanks alot,,BUT:
I agree with “Albert”<<
(Please stay with pencil or some other medium, like charcoal or pastels for future videos.)in these days all the poeple became a painters.BECAUSE of this programes. Thus, the real painters must protect their Professions.

Matt, I know exactly what your talking about. I have a stack of drawings I gave up on because of the “awkward stage”. Focus on form and tones before the juicy stuff. I like that.
December 8th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Yes! Yes! Yes! Please do it in colour. Matt I’m so confused about colour picking in Photoshop and have tried various methods, opacity, dodge, burn, multiply etc with unsatisfying results, I’m still a bit confused.
Thanks for your words on perserverance, it has inspired me to go back and try to finish my lost causes.

Hi Matt,
I am a fairly new member. I think it is interesting to see different approaches to art in general. Whether traditional or computer drawing, I would love to see the completion of your portrait in color also. Really needed the message about patience. I am drawing a dog in pencil and appreciate your teaching plus your hard work at keeping this wonderful website going. Thank you so much. Susan

Matt,
I am not interested in any digital artwork, but only art mediums.
Digital is so specialized and the programs are expensive and not always easy to learn.
Please stay with pencil or some other medium, like charcoal or pastels for future videos.

Before you do anything new, make the nose bigger !!! it really isnt the right size!
December 8th, 2009 at 6:12 am
yes yes! I would very much like to see it in full color.
thanks!
December 8th, 2009 at 4:31 am
Thanks Matt for that very timely video on ‘patience’, I for one, get frustrated with my slow learning process. Then relaxing is impossible making things worse…go figure…I would be very interested in the idea of seeing how the color process works;) Thanks for all your hard work…Happy Holidays

December 7th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Yes, I would love to see not only the b&w version, but also in color. I think that would be wonderful. Thank you for doing this. And also, thank you for this little tutorial. We are in the last week of the semester for school and I needed to be reminded about patience and sticking with it.
December 7th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Hi Matt,
I only joined a few weeks ago and really love the web site.
You have made me want to get back into drawing again, as I haven’t really sat down and drawn anything since school, over twenty years ago.
But what I would really like to see is the portait drawing in colour please. Thanks
December 7th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
Matt,
No question about it I’m in for the long haul on this tutorial. Would love to see it finished out in color. Will be looking forward to adding the finished DVD when it is offered. I’m so guilty of rushing the work. Especially when it is quick poses of twenty minutes or even a couple hours. So this is really a big help. Thanks.
