Learn, Then Draw

Have you ever bought an anatomy book for artists? We all have. We buy it, read it and then put it on the shelf. We never put the information that we learned into practice. In this podcast I talk about using what you have learned. Use what you have learned, don’t try to be perfect. It’s important to just do, just draw.

I recently added a new anatomy lesson for members of
Drawing Tutorials Online. After learning about the trapezius muscle I wanted to work on a quick drawing from my imagination. Putting into practice what I learned then taught. It’s not perfect, but I did learn a lot while working on the drawing.

Are you a fan yet?. I recently set up a new fan page on facebook. It’s going to become a great place to meet like minded people. Once again thanks for stopping by and watching the podcast.

Great video! That’s me your talking about, with the massive collection of drawing books sitting on my shelf. I do try to work through them methocally, but what usually happens is I’ll do a few excercises, gain some false confidence and think I’m ready to paint the Sistine Chapel and then get frustrated. So its good to be reminded that you have be methodical about these things to really get any benefit from them.

And I’m glad you talk about slowing down. That’s one of my biggest problems is trying to draw too fast and making a mess. I get decent results only when I slow way down, but i need to constantly remind myself of it. I think “Slow Hand” would be a good theme for drawing
