When Drawing detailed items like the hands it’s too easy to loose site of the main gesture and weight of the pose. Always keep the big movement in mind. If you are too focused on one small part of your drawing stiffness will soon creep into your work.
Are you a fan yet?. I recently set up a new fan page on facebook. It’s going to become a great place to meet like minded people. Once again thanks for stopping by and watching the drawing tip of the week.

Matt,
I’m just getting started with your site and been watching several of your videos all weekend. This is a good video for combining gesture and weight into your drawing. (I’ve been reading “The Natural Way to Draw” and it’s all about what you are describing here.

Drawing all of the fingers together is a great help. Really like the look you achieved with the Vine Charcoal/Water Color combo. Thanks.

As always, a great video! Thanks Matt. I can’t wait to hear about the Michelin Man lol. I have found the gesture drawings to be very helpful to losen up my drawings and to gain more confidence. They are also great warm up exercises – along with the figure eights.
