I’ve been working on creating video tutorials for our new sister site Painting Tutorials Online otherwise known as PTO. The steps are really starting to add up. We are up to Step Nineteen “Adding Color to Your Light Source”. I’ve received some pretty good feedback on this painting tutorial so I though I would share a sample chapter. It’s just a natural progression to want to go from drawing into a color medium. That is one of the many reasons why I started PTO. At Painting Tutorials Online we focus mainly on oil painting. However the color knowledge taught translates to any medium especially a digital one. Enjoy watching the sample chapter.

Is anyone else of the opinion that it’s extremely hard to earn a dollar on the internet. It feels like years since I started without any luck. Like me a lot of people find it’s impossible to stop trying. I would say the only ones making the money are the ones selling the apps and e books etc they say will have you quids in on the net. Will it ever change? Probably not. You might agree, you might not. Enjoyed your site.

So inspired, i’ve been way too afraid to begin oil painting, I always play it safe in my sketches. Tomorrow i really want to invest in some paints and get stuck in! This will also help me apply my make-up better
. Would have loved to have seen how you created the skin tone, layering, blending etc. Absolutely beautiful.

YEAH MATT! That is looking really good! I really enjoyed watching it. I am drawn in! Now I want to watch you paint the rest of it. I never did get my debit card to work so I didnt come back to drawing tutorials online. Maybe we can get that worked out so I can watch some of the painting videos. I’ve been dong a ton of painting lately digital and in oils trying to get back into it after being sick for a really long time. Check it out on my blog http://littlesketchherelittlesketchthere.blogspot.com/. (although I am not sure how you would even have a second to do that you are doing a ton of stuff!) painting great! video great! sound great! Lighting great! Keep it up great work!

My dream is one day to paint portraits. Loved the way you painted the light source and used tints. Even though this step was advance for my level-it was inspiring! Thanks Matt!

Awesome! It looks like so much fun, too. I’ve never painted before but now I want to. I noticed that in the reference picture there is a slight green tint in the shadows of her face, but in your painting these areas are maroon-ish. I was wondering about this, but then I remembered you once said you were red-green color blind.
