We are at week 51 of consistently adding weekly video critiques over at Drawing Tutorials Online. I wanted to share this particular video critique with you all.
Portrait drawing can be quite daunting. However if you try to simplify things by looking for simple shadow shapes the process does get easier. Sometimes we get to caught up in details. Squint a lot at your work. Get up and look at your portrait drawing from ten feet away. How does it look, does it look flat or perhaps patchy. Also you can try to get a clear sense of where the light in coming from. Is there one light source or is there two light sources. Manipulate the values to promote the most dimension. Your drawings will pop right off of the paper.
